For this painting, the artist chose to adopt a more distinguished approach to the varied subject matter by deliberately separating materials and creating strong contrasts in the paint application. The foreground landscape was built up through multiple layers, incorporating a significant amount of chalk applied with sponges and various brushes, with plans to add glazes later to achieve the correct values.
Rather than painting the image solely from life, the artist focused on composition and the broader interplay of light and shadow, tailoring studies toward the future refinement of the scene. Numerous sketches of clouds and references for rocks were made, alongside studies of drapery, anatomy, and portraits, which were collectively synthesized into the final image. The artist believes that depicting such a weighty and significant story requires more than simple observation of nature.
The conceptual basis of the painting stems from the choice of which aspect of Moses to portray, specifically his humanistic side and the joy found in understanding God’s way. The artist relates deeply to Moses’s suffering and struggles in seeking the right path in life, drawing strength from his journey through the desert. Moses is depicted as a man marked by suffering but, consequently, endowed with great strength. Tatiana Popova, born in 2001, is a Russian figurative painter currently based in Florence, Italy.She is a former artist in residency at the Florence Academy of Art and a graduate student. Her style in work was formed greatly by principles of Classical Painting taught to her from a young age. For over 6 years Tatiana had been attending the Academy of Watercolor and Fine Arts in Moscow and has built a great artistic foundation. In early 2020 she made a decision to move to Italy and study at the Florence Academy of Art. Since then she expanded her knowledge of art history, the language of depicting nature and its beauty. As one of the graduates in residency at the Academy, Tatiana has improved her skill and developed a personal style vibrant and dramatic in colors and lighting that are eye-catching. She continues to learn how to improve her skills and develop her own artistic style. Her works are realistic and focus on capturing human experience and inner characters of a person. The primary medium is mostly oil. It tends to be the most accurate medium at portraying the variety of light, visual forms and colours. Her art pieces are personal and individual in stylistic choices and narrative, since she is exploring her Slavic heritage and stories of the past. Besides painting, Tatiana teaches on a regular basis with groups of different ages sharing her experience in realistic art. In the future, she is looking for more opportunities to educate people about art around the world and paint grand projects with deep personal meaning.

Per questo dipinto, l'artista ha scelto di adottare un approccio più raffinato al variegato soggetto, separando deliberatamente i materiali e creando forti contrasti nell'applicazione della pittura. Il paesaggio in primo piano è stato costruito attraverso più strati, incorporando una quantità significativa di gesso applicato con spugne e pennelli vari, con l'intenzione di aggiungere successivamente delle velature per ottenere i valori corretti.
Piuttosto che dipingere l'immagine esclusivamente dal vero, l'artista si è concentrato sulla composizione e sulla più ampia interazione tra luce e ombra, adattando gli studi al futuro perfezionamento della scena. Il suo stile di lavoro si è formato soprattutto grazie ai principi della pittura classica che le sono stati insegnati fin da piccola. Per oltre 6 anni Popova ha frequentato l'Accademia di acquerello e belle arti di Mosca e ha costruito una grande base artistica. All'inizio del 2020 ha deciso di trasferirsi in Italia per studiare alla Florence Academy of Art. Da allora ha ampliato la sua conoscenza della storia dell'arte, del linguaggio della rappresentazione della natura e della sua bellezza. Come una delle laureate in residenza presso la scuola, Tatiana ha migliorato le sue capacità e sviluppato uno stile personale vibrante e drammatico, con colori e luci che catturano l'attenzione. Continua a imparare a migliorare le sue capacità e a sviluppare il proprio stile artistico.
