Artwork Description
This sculpture is an allegorical exploration of Adam and Eve's fall from divine grace, immediately after the original sin. The postures of their bodies reveal their spiritual state: closed, separated, turned inward. Adam points to his chest, a gesture expressing the new inner awareness that has struck them both. The two faces, turned away from each other, symbolize the rupture of communion that follows the fall. The work captures the moment when innocence is shattered and spiritual solitude takes shape, making visible the existential burden of sin and loss.
Artist Biography
Gabriel Akre (b. Lansing, MI, USA 1998) is a sculptor currently based in Florence, Italy. He is inspired by the Classical period, the Renaissance, and the great French academics of the 19th century. He uses the figure as his subject and his work aims to capture that life-giving quality that exists between Creator and creation. He endeavors to capture an individual person undergoing a unique, yet universal, human experience. He does this by working from life and actively studying expression and emotion. He believes that the human body reveals the human soul, therefore he observes from nature the infinite varieties within each individual.
In 2017 and again in 2018, Gabriel traveled throughout Italy to study sculpture, painting, and art history, which had a significant impact on his artistic trajectory. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis, IN in 2020. Afterwards, he enrolled at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. Gabriel completed the full time Sculpture Program in the spring of 2024 and received the Graduate in Residency for the academic year of 2024-25. Currently he works in a private studio taking commissions and creating personal artwork.
Gabriel received two First Place prizes in the 17th Annual ARC Salon competition for his work The Garden in the “Sculpture” and the “Fully from Life” categories, and an Honorable Mention for his work Revelation in the “Sculpture” category. He has been published twice in the Fine Art Connoisseur magazine. He has exhibited work in Florence, Italy, London, UK, and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Questa scultura è un'esplorazione allegorica della caduta di Adamo ed Eva dalla grazia divina, subito dopo il peccato originale. Le posture dei corpi rivelano la loro condizione spirituale: chiusi, separati, rivolti verso sé stessi. Adamo indica il proprio petto, gesto che esprime la nuova consapevolezza interiore che ha colpito entrambi. I due volti distolti l'uno dall'altro simboleggiano la rottura della comunione che segue la caduta. L'opera cattura il momento in cui l'innocenza si spezza e la solitudine spirituale prende forma, rendendo visibile il peso esistenziale del peccato e della perdita.

Gabriel Akre (nato a Lansing, Michigan, nel 1998) è uno scultore che attualmente vive a Firenze, Italia. Trae ispirazione dal periodo classico, dal Rinascimento e dai grandi accademici francesi del XIX secolo. Utilizza la figura come soggetto e il suo lavoro mira a catturare quella qualità vivificante che esiste tra il Creatore e la creazione. Si sforza di catturare un individuo che vive un'esperienza umana unica, ma universale. Lo fa lavorando dal vivo e studiando attivamente l'espressione e l'emozione; crede che il corpo umano riveli l'anima umana, quindi osserva dalla natura le infinite varietà presenti in ogni individuo.
Nel 2017 e poi di nuovo nel 2018, Gabriel ha viaggiato in tutta Italia per studiare scultura, pittura e storia dell'arte, il che ha avuto un impatto significativo sul suo percorso artistico. Ha conseguito la laurea in Belle Arti con specializzazione in Pittura presso la Herron School of Art + Design di Indianapolis nel 2020. Successivamente, si è iscritto alla Florence Academy of Art di Firenze. Gabriel ha completato il programma di scultura a tempo pieno nella primavera del 2024 e ha ricevuto il Graduate in Residency per l'anno accademico 2024-25. Attualmente lavora in uno studio privato accettando commissioni e creando opere d'arte personali.
