Rodney Munday

I work in clay for sculpture in bronze or bronze resin. Many think of my finish as being impressionistic, but it is inspired rather by the “uncompleted” finish of much of Michelangelo's work. The ethos of the Renaissance in general informs much of what I produce, for I see it as a healthy counterpoise to the ahistorical self-centred indulgence in sensationalism which has infiltrated so much contemporary institutional art. It is perhaps because I see the role of art as supra-personal that I have been fortunate in gaining a number of public commissions within a religious context.
